5 Adverse effects of obesity on health
Most people may not realize, but the adverse effects of obesity can really take a toll on their health if left unaddressed.
Obesity has become a way of life in today’s day and age. However, any complacency towards it will only build the list of adverse effects of obesity longer. Deposition of fat can lead to many hazardous health effects. Here are a few effects of obesity on health that you need to know about.
1. Infertility – Obese women, who have large amount of fat deposited in their body, tend to experience the production of androgens, which are hormones that prevent follicular maturation and lead to anovulation (failure of ovaries to release the egg).
2. Blood pressure– When a person is overweight, there is a high risk of the blood pushing against the walls of the arteries when the heart pumps blood. This escalates the pressure and leads to high blood pressure problems, which can ultimately lead to heart stroke, heart attack and eye sight problems.
3. Diabetes – Obesity can lead to diabetes, as the blood glucose level in the body increases. Since the body fails to produce insulin in a condition like diabetes, there is a fall in blood sugar levels as a consequence.
4. Sleep problems – Sleep disorders can also include sleep apnea, a common disorder in which a person takes a pause in breathing while sleeping. If there is a lot of fat around the neck, there are more chances of the condition to occur or persist.
5. Cancer – Obesity or fat deposition can also lead to cancer of the colon, breast and the gallbladder.
